BOMBAY SOCIAL, ESHER
Bombay Social in Esher was the first restaurant we went to after setting this blog up, so we assume it will always have a special place in our hearts because it did not disappoint with its fantastic variation of Indian food in a wonderful setting.
Ambience
Looks were deceiving from the outside from the high street. Inside was warm, inviting and contemporary with a twist of classic elegant decorated with large mirrors next to the tables and a Japanese inspired floral bar which was both elegant and beautiful. It is possibly one of the best instagrammable restaurants in Esher. Their playlist is lovely, but it does feel too loud and a bit much after an hour.
Food
We ordered starters & mains. For starters, we ordered Aloo Tiki, Chicken Tikka & Chilli King Prawns. We were surprised to see the portion sizes being on the small side, given the high price point for them. The starters were served in ceramic plates and on a bed of salad and pomegranate. Each dish was beautifully presented; however, the Prawns were slightly cold, and the chicken was dry and chewy. However, the Aloo Tiki did not disappoint and had the right amount of spice! For the mains, we had ordered the Old Delhi Butter Chicken and Railway Lamb accompanied with Pilaw Rice & Garlic Naan. Again the portion sizes were on the small side, but they had arrived hot. The presentation of the mains was just as pleasing to the eye as the starters, and the flavours and aromas of the food made it even tastier.Drinks
The cocktails were made at the beautiful bar and were made on request. We had sampled their Lychee & Watermelon martinis, and they were not only delicious and moreish, but their presentation showed love and care went into making the cocktails. Our martinis were even decorated with a beautiful flower.
Service
The service was impeccable. It was quiet for a Sunday but we couldn’t fault the staff as they were very accommodating, helpful, friendly and hospitable.
Price
The price was more high end as it states on their website that they cook with “only the highest quality ingredients” and it did taste amazing. However, the prices for the food & drinks were on the high side (the bill was over £150 for two people including drinks!!) and for the portion sizes being a bit on the small side, this does seem like a high price to pay, especially as some of the starters were cold when they had arrived. So if you are looking for value for money, this is probably not the place. Bombay Social is pricey with 12.5% additional service charge on top of the bill, but it’s worth the overall taste, atmosphere and service.
Overall Experience
Our overall experience of Bombay Social was very positive apart from the cold starters, but the mains & cocktails did not disappoint. Suppose you are looking for an evening out in Esher for the overall experience, which has a more luxurious feel from the Decor to the cocktails. In that case, we recommend going to Bombay Social for some tasty martinis and delicious food. According to a patron who visited the restaurant also stated that the owners of Bombay Social in Esher also own Mystica in Addlestone and No 7 Temple in Weybridge. Who knows, maybe you can find Zey & Jas enjoying some more Indian dishes there in the future!
